Farmer Greg — A Life in the Orchard
Farming isn’t just what Farmer Greg does — it’s who he is.
Greg grew up on an Australian fruit orchard and is a fourth-generation fruit farmer, carrying on a family tradition that has been passed down through generations. For more than 40 years, he has dedicated his life to growing avocados and custard apples on his Sunshine Coast orchard.
His day begins early — often at 4:00am — and doesn’t finish until around 7:00pm. But before the day’s work begins, there is a special morning ritual. Greg sits quietly in the orchard and enjoys three cups of tea from his great-grandmother’s old teapot before heading off to work.
Every avocado Greg grows begins with his own seed stock. Through years of experience, patience and careful grafting, he develops healthy, productive Hass and Sharwil avocado trees, always looking for ways to improve the fruit.
But Greg is never satisfied with simply growing a good avocado. He is constantly searching for better, creamier and more flavoursome fruit. His generations of farming knowledge, combined with his own experience and curiosity, are channelled into developing avocados that taste even better.
Perhaps that is the secret to Farmer Greg’s success.
He has found his passion.
For Greg, there is nowhere else he would rather be and nothing else he would rather do. His orchard is his life, and every day he puts his knowledge, experience and genuine love of farming into growing the best avocados he can.
